I had a good two hours with nothing to do but hang around last Thursday. Having that much time to kill is a proper luxury. And it was sunny too. I sat out on Scarcroft green and drew the school. Sketching a building brings you right up close and into the detail of the place, almost like you’re literally exploring it. It’s an incredible old building, with lots of architectural nooks and crannies well worth getting lost in. As I drew I was imagining shinning up drainpipes or climbing the clock tower to ring the school bell like in The Turbulent Term of Tyke Tyler. They don’t make school buildings like that any more.
